“I don’t think about Americans’ financial situation. I don’t think about anybody.” — President Donald J. Trump, May 12, 2026
It’s been a year now, and it doesn’t seem like our country is greater. In fact, many would argue that it is worse. Here’s the latest:
- He said it himself: When asked if Americans’ struggles motivate him to end the Iran war, Trump said “not even a little bit.” When pressed, he doubled down.
- Inflation is back — and getting worse: Prices rose 3.8% in April, the highest since 2023, and economists project inflation could hit 6% this quarter. For the first time in three years, wages aren’t keeping up with prices.
- Gas prices are crushing commuters: At $3.74 a gallon locally — up 52% from a year ago — Americans are pawning belongings just to afford the drive to work. Trump promised lower prices. His war delivered the opposite.
- Xi got everything, Trump got nothing: At this week’s Beijing summit, Xi Jinping projected stability and conceded nothing. The “master dealmaker” came home empty-handed.
- A $400 million ballroom — on your dime: While you struggle at the pump, Republicans tried to fund a $400 million ballroom for Trump using $1 billion in taxpayer “security” money.
- $10 billion for Trump and friends: Trump is pushing to settle his lawsuit for $10 billion in taxpayer money — enough to more than double his family’s net worth.
Meanwhile,
- Groceries and gas are even more expensive than they were when he took office.
- Inflation is higher than it was when he took office.
- People are still having a hard time finding a job
- The national debt is higher.
- Climate change continues to have an impact
- The Trump administration continues to demonstrate that power and money are all that matter to them–not the Americans they represent.
We are keeping track of the things that really matter to American voters and their ability to provide for families, plan for their futures, and live their lives. We will be posting where things stand each month so you can decide for yourself how great things really are for you and your family.
Here’s where things stand:
